Delaware pricing, honestly
The cost of canine tumor removal in Delaware varies enormously depending on where it is done. Talleyville owners regularly come to us with estimates between $1,200 and $2,500 for a procedure that starts at $450 through our mass removal service.
The difference is not the surgery. It is the overhead of the building the surgery takes place in.

What it costs, by mass type
| Situation | Our starting price |
|---|---|
| Single small superficial skin mass | $450 |
| Single larger or deeper subcutaneous mass | $550 – $750 |
| Multiple masses in one anesthetic | $450 first, reduced rate per additional |
| Large infiltrative or muscle-involved mass | Quoted after assessment |
| Histopathology (per sample) | Quoted separately |
Removing several masses under one anesthetic is almost always cheaper and safer than separate procedures. If your dog has four lipomas and only two are genuinely causing problems, we will tell you that rather than removing all four. Senior dogs from long-established neighborhoods often have several lumps at once, so this conversation comes up a lot.
What the price includes
Every mass removal price on this page covers:
pre-anesthetic blood screening, anesthesia, continuous SpO2 / ECG / blood pressure / temperature monitoring, the excision with inked margins, a cosmetic subcuticular closure, home-recovery medications, a structured discharge checklist, a 24/7 recovery text line, and the complimentary 10-to-14 day healing evaluation.
That list matters when you compare quotes. A lower headline figure that leaves out the bloodwork and bills monitoring separately is not a cheaper surgery.
The four things that move the price
Size. A larger mass takes longer to dissect and leaves a bigger gap to close.
Depth. A superficial skin mass is straightforward. A deep subcutaneous mass sitting against muscle needs more dissection and more careful control of bleeding.
Number. Each additional mass in the same session costs less than the first, because the anesthetic, monitoring, and preparation are already covered.
Laboratory work. Histopathology is the main optional extra, typically adding a few hundred dollars per sample. We recommend it whenever there is a realistic chance the mass is malignant, and we quote it separately so the decision stays yours.
Here is how that looks in practice. A nine-year-old golden from Talleyville comes in with one soft lump on her chest that aspirated as fat, and a firmer, faster-growing one on her hind leg. The chest lump is a $450 excision. The leg mass is deeper and needs wider margins, so it sits at around $700. Done together under one anesthetic, with histopathology on the leg mass only, the owner gets one written estimate before anything is booked, and no line items appear afterwards that were not on it.
Why histopathology is usually worth it
For a soft, mobile lump on an eight-year-old Labrador that aspirated clearly as a lipoma, it is reasonable to decline.
For anything else, the analysis answers two questions that change what happens next: what the mass actually was, and whether it was fully removed. Because the surgical margins are inked before the sample goes to the lab, the pathologist can report whether the tumor reached the cut edge. If it did, and it was malignant, you want to know now rather than in six months when it grows back.
Where the saving comes from
Our network coordinates experienced general practice veterinary surgeons in New Castle County who already do this work routinely and carry a fraction of the overhead of a corporate referral hospital.
That difference reaches you. What does not change is the safety protocol, which is identical on a $450 lump and a $1,500 splenectomy.
We accept cash, credit card, and CareCredit. If cost is what is holding up your dog’s surgery, tell us when you book. There is usually more flexibility than owners expect.
Getting a real number
The prices above are starting points. For an accurate figure, Talleyville Dog Surgery needs your dog’s breed and age, roughly how big the mass is, how long it has been there, and whether it has been aspirated. Send that with a photo, or call (302) 599-0299, and we will come back with a realistic range and the soonest available date.
